Bringing Baby Hometm - A Program for New Parents
Experiencing the Transistion to Parenthood (expecting couples - parents of toddlers)
When a baby arrives, everything changes. Parents must adapt to the 24/7 care of a new, vulnerable infant –
an enormous task. Not surprisingly, 40 to 70% of couples experience stress, profound conflict and drops in marital
satisfaction during this time, all of which affect their baby’s care.
The content of this amazing program has evolved from over 26 years of marriage and family research
and will teach couples how to:
- Avoid marital meltdown and increase marital satisfaction
- Deal with stress and understand that it is normal when a baby arrives
- Keep dads involved in infant care
- Co-parent effectively and improve the quality of parent-infant interaction
- Better understand early childhood development
The hope is that by strengthening their own relationships, parents will be better able to address and model healthy
emotional and intellectual development in their children. Among the many research-proven benefits of this program is the
decrease in reported postpartum depression and "baby blues" for both mother and father from those who have participated in one
of these workshops.
The Bringing Baby Home program format involves a two-day workshop with day one focusing on strengthening
the marriage and getting to know the baby and day two addressing the regulation of conflict and building strong family interactions.
Detailed background materials are provided so couples can revisit specfiic topics and intervention strategies.
New Parent Class
Parents seem to prepare for just about everything surrounding baby's
arrival except for how to actually "parent" once the baby
comes home. This class (formally titled Baby Brain Building and
Bonding) is perfect for addressing how to care for your baby
during the first few months. This is not a class
on how to change diapers, bathe your baby, or what creams to use.
Rather, this is a class about how to encourage bonding and attachments
with your baby, how to stimulate brain development, and lay the
foundations for baby's self-esteem and self-confidence. Many researchers
have concluded that the first 3 months of a baby's life are the
most important months for laying down these foundations. Parents
will learn what is happening developmentally with their baby and
how to effectively interact with their little one in fun and easy
ways that will benefit both baby and parent. Grandparents and other
caretakers are also encouraged to attend.
Becoming an Effective and Loving Parent
Feel like your kids never listen to you? Feel like you run out of ideas on how to address your child's behavior?
Feeling frustrated with this whole parenting thing? Parenting does not have to be as hard as parents tend to make it.
In fact, raising a child can be easy (most of the time) and fun! Learn how to empower your children to take responsibility
for their behavior, make good choices and learn from their mistakes. Gain skills for healthy and productive discipline
founded in love and respect rather than fear and manipulation. Create strong relationships with your children that will
last a lifetime while drawing your child closer to their Creator. This is a four-hour workshop that parents of all ages
won't want to miss! Participants are also asked to purchase the book "Grace Based Parenting" by Tim Kimmel. Continental breakfast included.
Parenting Toddlers
Researchers are reporting over and over that the first two-to-three
years of a child's life are the most important and foundational
years of their development. From self-concept to how they will handle
future relationships, a lot is being learned during this time beyond
just mobilization and vocabulary. This 3-hour workshop is designed
to help parents understand developmentally what's going on
with their baby and to use that information to help their child
develop in the best way possible. Parents will also learn how to
teach their child appropriate interactions with the world around
them. Confidence building skills, strategies and reminders will
be given to help parents be effective and make the parenting experience
less overwhelming.
Parenting Preschoolers
Preschoolers can be so much fun! Imaginative minds are in top creativity
mode, the world is viewed with wonder, and there just doesn't
seem to be enough time in the day to get in all the needed playtime.
It can also be a frustrating time for parents as they try to teach
and direct their egocentric bundle of energy. This 2-hour workshop
is designed to help navigate the ins and outs of a preschooler's
mind and help parents use that information to their advantage. Confidence
building skills, strategies and reminders will be given to help
parents be effective and make the parenting experience less overwhelming.
Parenting Your School-Aged
Child
It's amazing how far your child has grown and developed already
in just a handful of years! It's sometimes easy to forget
that these little minds are still learning and developing. In this
3-hour workshop, parents will learn what's going on developmentally
with their child, what's important to them at this stage,
and how to use that information to make parenting less overwhelming.
Confidence building skills, strategies and reminders will be given
to help parents be effective and make the parenting experience easier
and more enjoyable.
Parenting Your Teenager
They're not adults yet (although they would like to think so)! In
fact, your teenager's brain is still not quite fully developed.
The teenage years are hard on parents and teens alike. For teens,
there's a constant struggle between longing to be grown up and still
wanting to hang on to aspects of their childhood. Parents struggle
between wanting their child to be able to behave like "adults"
and not wanting to let go of their "little baby". The
teenage years can be some of the most wonderful relational years
between a parent and teen or it can be the most dreaded years. In
this class, learn how to more effectively interact with your teen,
set appropriate expectations, and lay groundwork for a more healthy
relationship with your teen that will continue on into their adulthood.

Anger and Conflict Management
Workshop
Everyone gets angry at some point. But what is the appropriate
way to deal with anger when it occurs? Conflict is unavoidable
and we all experience varying degrees of conflict every day. But
how should we handle conflict? Because one of the major ways children
learn how to manage their anger and resolve conflict is by watching
how their parents have modeled conflict resolution and anger management,
this 3-hour workshop is ideal for parents seeking more productive
ways for handling anger and conflict with their children. In fact,
this class is recommended for any individual wishing to be better
at managing their anger and problem solving within any life setting.
Participants will explore the ways God created our bodies to signal
us when something is wrong, and how to use that information for
more positive outcomes. They will learn their "anger style"
and appropriate ways to deal with anger when it occurs. This information
will then be used to guide participants into the next step of
learning productive conflict solving skills that can be used to
create positive change and better relationships.
Though recommended as a combined workshop, Anger Management
and Conflict Mangement can be facilitated as two separate 2-hour
workshops.
